Text Box: FROM THE DESK OF CHIEF COOPER

Our Fire District now has a website. On the website you can see links to a number of things like, Who’s Who, File of Life, Prevention, and History. In time, we will be having CPR and First Aid classes and we will have dates for those on the website. Please visit our website @ http://jcfd5.org.

I would like to thank Tom Carey for all his hard work on our web site. Mr. Carey is one of our newest members to the District, but we cannot forget to say “Thank You” also to his wife Phyllis for her work on the site.

We have gone to DSL & our new E-mail is jcdf5@ earthlink.net. Please make any changes in your address book.

In 2006, we submitted a grant to FEMA for new Turn Out gear and new Self Contained
Breathing System ( SCBA’s).

 Property Owners
The goal’s of our job are to provide the best and most up to date service that we can for the people in our community. We need your HELP with this 3 things:

The red address signs that are issued by the county only help if you have them in place and keep them properly maintained. The uniformity of the signs and reflective numbers can facilitate directing rescue personnel to the location where an emergency has been reported to 911. The signs should be kept clean, easy to read and located at the entrance to your property. Trimming grasses and plants around them should be part of regular maintenance. Bent, rusted, or missing signs need to be replaced and you can show up in person at Community Building on Sheridan in Port Townsend. There will be a small fee.
For property that has locked gates, you need to have a way for the E M S and Fire personnel to get you. We have Knox Boxes in place in the district, at some homes and businesses. These Knox Boxes are a way to lock a key in a box for emergency personnel to get to. If you have any questions please call me at 360-797-7711.
File of Life is a personal medical home file for emergency responders to help you in an emergency. With this information in place it will help us to know your medical history. No wasted time getting information from a confused patient.
Faster help for citizens in emergencies and corrective treatment can begin at once.
Assurance that proper persons will be notified quickly. .
PLEASE HELP US HELP YOU. Stop by the station and get one for free.
Fire season is coming fast so please take time to Fire Wise around your home for the summer. On May 3, 06 out in Joyce they had a 10 acre wild land fire. If you have question’s or concerns please call 360-797-7711.

Fire District 5 & 2 (Quilcene) are looking into ways that we can save money through buying supplies and our insurance together. We have developed a great training and mutual aid program with District 2 so that our volunteers get greater exposure & service.

 Thank you,
Chief Ben Cooper
