History 1983-1990
1983
- A second jump kit was purchased for the Discovery Bay Fire
Station.
- Mutual aid agreement was signed with Clallam Fire District #3.
- Purchased new boots, gloves, spanner wrenches and R V battery.
- Signed a contract for a State Grant for pagers from the EMS
Council.
- Started work on the Discovery Bay Station for septic system,
shower and water.
- The District was given a 6X6 with 1,500 gallon tanker without
pump and another 6X6 for parts, from Clallam District #3.
1984
- A tanker was donated from Sequim Fire Department was place
at the Discovery Bay Station.
- In August of this year Gary Bandy sold an acre of property
on Old Gardiner Road for anew Fire Station for $1.00. Then Gary
Bandy had his architect will make up the plans for the new
station, will start the new station as soon as the plans are
done.
- Purchased new hoses and regulators.
- Purchased 5 ton floor jack and 2-8 ton jacks and 2 short
jacks.
1985
- Don Leakey resigned as Commissioner and James R Wenban
was appointed to fill the position.
- Started the foundation for the new Station at the site
on Old Gardiner Road.
- Pope & Talbot offered to donate logs for the new Fire
Station, but they need to go to a mill to be made into the
lumber. John Brown offered to take the logs to the mill.
1986
- Bids were opened for construction of the new Fire
Station. It was awarded to Hanna Const of Port Angeles
for $19,486.33
- Bids for concrete of 30 feet by 6 inches deep in
front for the apron at the Fire Station went out. It was
awarded to Cliff Brehan for $4,105.02
- Bids for furnishings and installation of insulation
went out. It was awarded to M&P Garage Doors for
$3,234.00.
- Bids for dry wall went out. It was awarded to Don's
Drywall for $5,238.72.
- The rest of the work would be done by the
Volunteers.
- Purchased muffler for the 1977 Dodge Truck and a new
typewriter.
- 2-40 foot PG gas powered radiant heater was
purchased for the new Fire Station.
- After long weeks of donated time, labor and skill by
the Volunteers to complete the Fire Station it was
finally done in August.
- On August 30 the opening ceremony and dedication of
the new Fire Station was held. Several Districts and
other organizations and Officers were invited to the
ceremony.
- Helen Dent donated an old Schoolhouse bell that had
originally came around the Horn on a sailing schooner to
be put up in the tower.
- Signed a mutual aid agreement with the Department of
Natural Resources.
- The Gardiner Station on Hwy 101 was sold to J & B
Enterprises for $20,000.00.
1987
- Einar Forsman was declared 1986 Fireman of the
year by the District.
- In June a used pumper truck was purchased from
LN Curtis & Sons it was a 1967 International with
Howe pump for $17,264.00.
- The 1947 Chevrolet Pumper and a 1949 Ford Truck,
6X6 Army Truck were surplus out.
- The Discovery Bay Station 51 was expanded out
for a new truck.
1988
- Leased the shed from Jefferson County on E
Uncas Road for storage.
- John Brown resigned as Fire Chief.
- Mutual aid agreements were signed with the
other 5 East Jefferson Fire Districts.
- June an Ambulance was purchased and sent to
Sequim for outfitting with the necessary
ambulance gear and steel lockers were purchased
to store equipment for each Fire Station.
- August Einar Forsman was appointed Fire
Chief to replace John Brown.
- A training room was finished at the Gardiner
Station (52) for the Volunteers.
- New firefighters to join the ranks were
Steve Chinn, Mark Howe, and Richard Walters.
1989
- Don Scott resigned as Commissioner and
Richard Howe appointed to fill the vacancy.
- Purchased a Sharp 2-50 copier.
Vern
Kelm joined as a volunteer.
- An MPD was hired by the EMS Council to
over see all the EMT's and Paramedics and
that each District will pay into a fund for
his salary.
- September, Three (3) Volunteers went to
a Basic Fid Aid class at Peninsula Collage
and Earl Gibson to the EMT class in Clallam.
- November the Volunteer Association
raised $4,000.00 for the Jaws of Life and
the District paid the additional amount of
$3,500.00
- December Debi Hammon and Gary Hammon
took the EMT class at Chimacum.
1990
- A grant was made for a defibrillator
for $8,000.00 and a radio repeater for
$5,000.00
- Purchased a used fire truck from
Clallam #3 for $10,000.00.
- In September the District was
awarded a grant to purchase a new
defibrillator.
- The 1,000 gallon White Pumper, 1947
Chevrolet Pumper Truck, 6-50 feet of
fire hose and 30 feet of 3 section hoses
and extension ladder were surplus out.
- Another defibrillator was purchased
with State grant money and Auxiliary
money.
